Registration FAQS

Q: How do I register my child for classes?

A: You can register your child for classes by filling out the Google Form here. Please be sure to fill out all fields so that we are able to ensure enrollment for your child.

Q: How much do classes cost? Is financial aid available?

A: Tuition rates vary by class level and type. Financial aid is available to families with demonstrated need, and merit scholarships and seasonal discounts are available to all. A financial aid application will be made available at the beginning of each registration period.

Q: Can I register my child for multiple classes at once?

A: Yes, you may register your child for up to three classes. No classes take place at the same time on the same day, so a student may take multiple courses within one instruction period. Please be mindful that these classes may be challenging and may require homework/assignments when selecting course(s) for your child.

Q: What are your instructors' qualifications?

A: Our instructors include Research Science Institute (RSI) scholars, Regeneron Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) Finalists, Biology Olympiad (USABO) semifinalists, Chemistry Olympiad (USNCO) finalists, AIME qualifiers, Science Olympiad gold medalists, Scholastic gold medalists, and other nationally-recognized high school students. They are active leaders in their own schools and have ample experience with tutoring and teaching children. They are also passionate about the subjects they teach.

Q: Do class instructors assign homework?

A: Most courses will include homework or projects. Please make sure that your child completes these assignments on time to ensure that they progress with the material and keep up with the class.

Q: Will there be assessments or final projects?

A: Some classes may give out assessments and final projects. These are meant to assess the progress of your child and should be completed to the best of your child's ability.

Q: How difficult are the courses?

A: Our courses range in difficulty from an introduction to biology (Fundamentals of Biology) to advanced topics such as Data Science & Research. Course prerequisites are tailored to the information that instructors choose to include on their curriculums, so a good way to judge if a course may be too difficult for your child is to evaluate if he/she has satisfied the prerequisites.

Q: What if my child is not within the recommended grade range for a course?

A: If your child is not within the recommended grade range and you believe they are capable of handling the course material, please contact us through email ( with the subject line "Age Eligibility" or through our social media platforms. In the email, please include the following information:

  1. Name and grade of your child.

  2. Course that you would like to register your child for.

  3. The skills, experience, or knowledge that you believe has readied your child to take this course.

  4. Any concerns you may have or information about your child that you believe is important for us to know to ensure an accurate placement.

We will manually determine eligibility on a case-by-case basis with consideration for maturity, academic performance, and passion.

Q: What if my child has not completed the Recommended Prerequisites for a course?

A: None of our prerequisites are a requirement, but following them ensures that your child is in an appropriate course and can maximize their progress. We offer introductory courses for younger students and students who may not have taken certain recommended courses, and these courses are run by highly qualified instructors. You may consider registering your child for an introductory course simultaneously with or before a more advanced course. Please contact us through email if you have questions or concerns about your child's readiness.

Q: I am a high school/college student interested in becoming an instructor or officer at Illumina Learning. Is there a way to apply?

A: Yes! We welcome new volunteers and we generally have teaching and management positions available. Please see the Get Involved tab to view a list of open positions and the links to the applications. If you have any application questions or concerns, you may contact us through email ( or through our social media platforms.

Q: The course I wanted to register my child for is full. What should I do?

In order to ensure top-quality courses and individualized instructor feedback, class sizes are limited. If your desired course is full, you can sign your child up for the waitlist by filling out the registration form. If your child does not get in from the waitlist, he/she will be given first priority to register for the specific course when the next session of classes begins.
