Biochemistry
Course Description:
Biochemistry is a course for students interested in studying the integration between chemistry and biology through developing a solid understanding of structural biology, enzymology and metabolism. Biochemistry underlies concepts from all courses covered in Illumina Learning's competitive biology classes, and gaining a solid understanding of biochemistry is integral to future success as scientists.
Course objectives:
Introduce students to the essential processes of cellular respiration, fermentation, and photosynthesis.
Explore organic chemistry and the structure of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids!
Understand metabolic pathways involved in organic metabolism and diseases that result when metabolism is disturbed, including diabetes mellitus.
Prepare for higher-level STEM competitions and future research projects by developing a thorough understanding of protein analysis techniques, DNA technologies, and more!
Course highlights:
Taught by a nationally-recognized researcher and USABO semifinalist with significant experience in biogeochemistry research.
Personalized curriculum that focuses on helping students improve in areas that they are struggling with.
An opportunity for students to make new friends and collaborate on course material through our Discord server.
